Sophie Thiébaut has been Municipal Councillor for 10 years, responsible for social inclusion/cohesion and environmental issues. A 20 year active resident of the riding, she works as community organizer and spokesperson for Mobilisation Turcot, a vast coalition of citizen and community groups.
A graduate student in environmental studies, Sophie is working with her fellow citizens to implement the changes needed to tackle environmental and housing issues – finding that cities are doing what they can, but the federal government can and must do much more. Dismayed by the Kinder Morgan pipeline purchase and disappointed by the National Housing Strategy, she wants families to have a good roof over their heads.
Sophie works hard to help her region adapt to climate change: tree planting, green back alleys, and measures to combat heat islands and heavy rainfall. She has set up the municipality's brown collection service, is fighting to reduce GHG emissions while advocating for a green zero-carbon transition and adapting our economy and lifestyle with a positive vision of 2050.
