We’re fighting for strong community public schools for every child in Arizona - regardless of zip code, background, or status — and we’re so glad you’re with us!
We’d love to tell you our story. Our team of co-founders and statewide network of thousands of volunteers have been fighting for Arizona’s public schools for the past 7 years. In that time, we’ve accomplished so much — but we still have a long way to go!
Save Our Schools Arizona was founded in 2017 to challenge a universal voucher law (pushed through by out-of-state special interests and billionaires) that threatened to divert hundreds of millions of dollars from public schools to private schools. We mobilized Arizona voters to defeat Prop 305 in every single county, but, unfortunately, that was only the beginning.
In 2022, Governor Ducey and the Arizona Legislature pushed through another universal ESA voucher expansion, disregarding the will of Arizona voters in favor of dark-money special interests like Betsy DeVos and Charlie Kirk.
[[link removed]] Since the expansion went into effect in September 2022, the cost of ESA vouchers has skyrocketed from $160M a year to what is expected to be $900 million in 2024. This money will be diverted from local public schools that desperately need these funds.
Approximately 75% of voucher recipients never attended public school, meaning that hundreds of millions of our taxpayer dollars are used to subsidize a choice that voucher recipients could afford on their own.
Shockingly, u niversal ESA vouchers are now on track to bankrupt Arizona by 2024, unless we stand up and fight back. Here are some actions you can take TODAY:
