White House decision not to issue final menthol rule represents huge loss for public health, social justice ([link removed])

It is deeply disappointing that the Biden Administration has announced that it is delaying the final rule to remove menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes. As a result, the Administration has lost an opportunity to save lives, protect youth, and stand up for social justice by reducing health disparities. The inaction by the White House to remove menthol from cigarettes is all the more reason for states and localities to take action to implement flavored tobacco product restrictions in their own jurisdictions.

“Abbott Elementary” highlights truth campaign, educators’ role in preventing youth tobacco use ([link removed])

An episode of “Abbott Elementary,” the popular sitcom about educators at a public school in Philadelphia, highlights the impact of the truth campaign and calls attention to how tobacco use continues to impact the health of youth nationwide – and what educators can do to help. Schools play a central role confronting and addressing youth tobacco use, but Truth Initiative research ([link removed]) shows that many educators didn’t feel they were trained to address the issue. Here are three suggestions for how best to address student tobacco use at school, informed by the staff and students of Abbott Elementary.

Truth Initiative partners with Pennsylvania’s Office of Attorney General to provide prescription drug safety course, powered by EVERFI from Blackbaud ([link removed])

Truth Initiative and EVERFI® from Blackbaud® ([link removed]) , the leader in powering social impact through education, are teaming up once again to deliver Prescription Drug Safety: Know the truth. The Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General is supporting this important resource through its Community Drug Abuse Prevention (CDAP) grant program (made possible by the Substance Abuse Education and Demand Reduction Fund) to deliver the innovative digital course to students in grades 8-12 across the Commonwealth. The course educates students about the dangers of misusing prescription drugs, including fentanyl, exploring the impact misuse can have on their physical and mental health, relationships, communities — and their futures.
