White House decision not to issue final menthol rule represents huge loss for public health, social justice
It is deeply disappointing that the Biden Administration has announced that it is delaying the final rule to remove menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes. As a result, the Administration has lost an opportunity to save lives, protect youth, and stand up for social justice by reducing health disparities. The inaction by the White House to remove menthol from cigarettes is all the more reason for states and localities to take action to implement flavored tobacco product restrictions in their own jurisdictions.

“Abbott Elementary” highlights truth campaign, educators’ role in preventing youth tobacco use
An episode of “Abbott Elementary,” the popular sitcom about educators at a public school in Philadelphia, highlights the impact of the truth campaign and calls attention to how tobacco use continues to impact the health of youth nationwide – and what educators can do to help. Schools play a central role confronting and addressing youth tobacco use, but Truth Initiative research shows that many educators didn’t feel they were trained to address the issue. Minneapolis, Minnesota - The city council passed an ordinance to increase the minimum price of a pack of cigarettes to $15 before taxes, prohibit discounts and coupons, prohibit the sale of cigars in packages of less than four, and set a minimum price for other tobacco products.
