How to vote and stay safe
If you’re like us, you’re practicing social distancing to keep the public safe and eating peanut butter with a spoon. While we do that, we want to make sure that you’re up to date with the latest on how the pandemic is affecting voting. (First, if you have not already, please read the CDC’s guide ([link removed]) on how to keep yourself and others safe.)
Public health officials continue to advise people to limit our time in public spaces. So here’s the good news: If you need to vote, you probably can do it from home. In many states, you can request your ballot be sent to you by mail, no excuse required (certain states still do require an excuse such as injury, temporary absence, or illness).
If you live in a “no-excuse vote by mail” state and have a primary election coming up, here’s when you need to request your ballot by:

As of right now, Louisiana is the only state that has officially postponed its primary ([link removed]) (from April 4 to June 20), but every state with an upcoming primary is taking measures to make that sure vulnerable populations are protected and votes can be cast. Our friends at vote.org have created this resource so you can easily find out what’s happening in your state regarding COVID-19 and upcoming elections. ([link removed])
We’re hopeful that other states will take steps to waive any restrictions for who can vote by mail, and we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
If you’re practicing social distancing this weekend, here are a few ideas for how to pass the time while also getting ready for the work ahead this year:
* This is a great time to binge season 2 of The Wilderness, where Jon Favreau talks to the voters in Michigan, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Florida who are going to make the difference this election. ([link removed]) You’ll get some great insight into the kinds of conversations that will be most helpful to have with all different types of voters this year to make the case for why we need to defeat Donald Trump.
* If you’re really stir crazy, you can make some calls for Marie Newman ([link removed]) , who is running to unseat anti-choice Illinois Rep. Dan Lipinski on Tuesday, or find a do-it-from-home opportunity on a race near you at Vote Save America ([link removed]) .
* Donate to the Leave It All on the Field fund ([link removed]) . Organizers may be moving from doors to digital, but we still need to hire them! We’re less than $100,000 away from our goal.
We’re also stuck at home, so stay tuned as we come up with more ways to get involved remotely and re-enact Guardians of the Galaxy with our pets.
Thanks for doing your part to flatten the curve ([link removed]) !
