Well, this has been predictable from the moment Kevin McCarthy finally won the speakership (after 15 ballots, in case anyone has forgotten š). Today, McCarthy announced that he was directing an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.Ā
Letās be honest about whatās really happening: McCarthy is running out of road to run on this whole ākeeping the GOP caucus togetherā thing. Heās realized he needs to appease the most extreme MAGA members, so that maybe, just maybe, theyāll keep funding the government. (And he'll fulfill his primary aim, keeping his job.)
Taking a step back, itās a pretty good metaphor for the Republican party in generalāthe most extreme faction is 100% in charge, and it was silly to ever pretend otherwise.Ā
It sure seems like it might be better if these guys didnāt control any branch of the U.S. government. Alas, thatās not the caseāand so weād really like to take back the House. We think you might like that too. Chip in $15 to help protect vulnerable House incumbents and get us one step closer to re-taking the speaker's gavel in 2024.Ā

Itās easy to poke fun at the dysfunction and chaos in the Republican caucus, but the fundamental truth underneath all the sound and fury is pretty scary. One of our two major parties is interested only in power for powerās sake, with no regard for the good of the country or its people.Ā

Thank you.Ā
