Well, this has been predictable from the moment Kevin McCarthy finally won the speakership (after 15 ballots, in case anyone has forgotten 😜). Today, McCarthy announced that he was directing an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
Let’s be honest about what’s really happening: McCarthy is running out of road to run on this whole “keeping the GOP caucus together” thing. He’s realized he needs to appease the most extreme MAGA members, so that maybe, just maybe, they’ll keep funding the government. (And he'll fulfill his primary aim, keeping his job.)
Taking a step back, it’s a pretty good metaphor for the Republican party in general—the most extreme faction is 100% in charge, and it was silly to ever pretend otherwise.
It sure seems like it might be better if these guys didn’t control any branch of the U.S. government. Alas, that’s not the case—and so we’d really like to take back the House. We think you might like that too. Chip in $15 to help protect vulnerable House incumbents and get us one step closer to re-taking the speaker's gavel in 2024.
