John,
There’s something lurking in the water…
And it’s making its way toward Florida, ready to wreak havoc on this summer’s beachgoers…
No, it’s not Jaws or a sea monster. It’s a giant sargassum seaweed blob — twice the width of the continental United States!

BEWARE OF THE BLOB » [[link removed]]This massive seaweed bloom has major concerns for both human and aquatic life. When sargassum decomposes, it sucks oxygen out of the water, which creates "dead zones" in typical nursery habitats like mangrove forests, coral reefs, and seagrass beds. As the seaweed rots on the beach, it releases hydrogen sulfide – a toxin that causes respiratory problems. Sargassum also contains arsenic, so it can’t be eaten or used as fertilizer. And if it isn’t cleaned up properly, that arsenic can leach into drinking water.
Like many classic horror thrillers, this menace is by our own design. The reason is simple: rising global temperatures due to climate change are already creating never-before-seen oceanic phenomena that pose real threats to health effects for our oceans and ourselves.
That’s why we are asking you to make a donation to SEEC PAC today so we can fully fund our Members of Congress who are fighting tooth-and-nail to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts of climate change. [[link removed]]
