Exciting news! The New Deal for New Americans Act [[link removed]] has been reintroduced in Congress! This groundbreaking legislation—sponsored by U.S. Senator Ed Markey and Representatives Grace Meng, Pramila Jayapal, and Jesús “Chuy” García—is a game-changer for immigrants and refugees, promoting inclusion, economic growth, and civic engagement.
Some highlights of the bill include: Establishing a national Office of New Americans, reducing barriers to naturalization, protecting fee waivers and expanding reduced fee applications, promoting civic engagement through automatic voter registration of newly naturalized individuals, and increasing the refugee admissions level to 125,000 per fiscal year.

Did you know that there are more committee chairmen named Mike than women committee leaders in Congress? Despite making up 29% of today’s Congress, women have only 17% of committee leadership positions [[link removed]] (both chairs and ranking members).
This Women’s History Month, let's strive for more balanced representation and empower more New American women and women of color to lead. At NAL, we're committed to supporting and equipping these trailblazers as they break barriers and change the face of leadership at all levels of government.

Politicians around the country are scheming to take learning opportunities away from children and their parents with bills like H.R. 5, the “Parents Bill of Rights.”
But here's what they don't know: We are the majority, and 80% of parents want to protect students' access to diverse books and information and their ability to think for themselves. It’s our responsibility to ensure kids of color and LGBTQ+ kids feel welcome in classrooms, and we have an opportunity to do that now. [[link removed]]

Today, we’re closing out the newsletter with a quote from Anterjot Singh Bains [[link removed]] , one of our newest alums from our Ready to Lead: Midwest training last month:
“I learned how the uniqueness of my life’s experiences—being a Sikh, being a Punjabi, having studied in Canada, moved to the United States and calling it home now, can contribute towards me bringing a positive change in the communities I live in and the people I interact with.
I highly recommend the Ready to Lead training by New American Leaders.”
Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
