John, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) needs volunteers to review the science instructional materials and textbooks that publishers will submit in April for state approval.
We need community members like you to serve on textbook review teams [[link removed]] because, in the past, weโve seen far-right extremists attack science textbooks that teach about important topics like climate change and evolution. We're getting down to the wireโthe deadline to apply is this Monday, March 27! Can you help?
Apply to serve on a textbook review team by 3/27 [[link removed]]
Not sure if you can make it? Apply anyway! You can always decline the appointment if, for some reason, you end up unable to serve.
More details: TEA is asking for teachers, administrators, parents, business community members, and others with appropriate content knowledge to volunteer. The reviews will focus primarily on whether the textbooks align with curriculum standards the state board adopted in 2021. Reviewers can also call out factual errors they might find. You can identify your preferences for which grade levels and subject areas to review. TEA says: โCandidates must be available during June or July 2023 and be able to read on a computer screen for an extended period.โ
Please let us know [
[email protected]] if youโve applied to serve on a review team and whether or not you are appointed to one. Thank you for fighting for Texas students!
