Hi John,
The statement “all men are created equal” doesn’t mean the same thing it did in 1776.
While we’ve made progress to rectify the lack of clarity, still nowhere in any of our governing documents are the words “all men AND women are equal…”
But, in the Connecticut constitution, it does.
In 1974, the voters of our state overwhelmingly chose to add two words to our equal protection clause “No person shall be denied the equal protection of the law … because of religion, race, color, ancestry, national origin or sex.”
On November 27, 1974, Connecticut voted for gender equality.
In that same election, we elected the first female governor in the nation - Ella T. Grasso.
Connecticut Democrats believe that when we raise the hard questions of gender equality, we raise up the individuals behind the labels. If you do as well, donate now and show your solidarity in the cause of gender equality.
DONATE TODAY [[link removed]]
As International Women’s Month continues, we want to recognize the campaigning and advocacy that went into changing the fates of millions of women through the passage of the Connecticut ERA.
We also want to recognize the value of representation by women leaders. Governor Grasso was the first of many to follow, and she could only have done it with the support of those around her.
When you donate to the Democratic Party of Connecticut, you are helping women shatter the glass ceilings at every level of government.
With your donation, you are fostering opportunities for women across the state - something that was denied to their ancestors.
So now, as we enter the final week of International Women’s Month, will you make a donation of $250, $100, $75, $35, or even $10 to support the Democratic Party of Connecticut and all the amazing women we are working to elect? [[link removed]]
As always, thank you for standing with us and the many remarkable leaders in our state.
Sincerely,
Nancy DiNardo
