Hello John,
Now is the time to Rise Up for LGBTQ+ Youth [[link removed]] .
According to GLSEN's most recent National School Climate Survey, 82% of LGBTQ+ youth reported feeling unsafe in school.
New anti-LGBTQ+ bills are introduced daily and more students are being stripped of safe and affirming learning environments, books, and resources.
Every student deserves to know they are loved, safe, and supported as their authentic selves.
Here are two ways you can show your support for LGBTQ+ youth RIGHT NOW!
#1 Take the Rise Up for LGBTQ+ youth pledge: [[link removed]]
I pledge to advocate for safe learning environments where young people, their teachers, and school staff are free from the violence of racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, ableism, and all forms of systemic oppression.
I pledge to advocate for LGBTQ+ affirming books, resources, and curriculum in schools.
I pledge to rise up against hateful anti-LGBTQ+ bills and rhetoric.
SIGN THE PLEDGE [[link removed]]
By taking this pledge, you are showing LGBTQ+ youth that they are not alone. They have advocates like you who care for, affirm, and protect them.
Share this pledge on social media to let your followers know that you stand with LGBTQ+ youth. Tag @GLSEN and use the hashtag #RiseUp4LGBTQ .
#2 Tell your Representatives that H.R. 5 harms LGBTQ+ students & families: [[link removed]]
Congressional bill H.R. 5 seeks to censor LGBTQ+ topics in schools and forcibly out transgender and nonbinary students. This so-called “Parent’s Bill of Rights'' doesn't reflect the perspectives of our community and the majority (80%) of parents who say it’s important that their child be accepting of people who are different from them. This is an explicit attempt to undermine the public education system and enables the erasure of LGBTQ+ voices and the voices of communities of color.
We need your help in order to shut this bill down.
Fill out this form to tell your Congressional Representatives that this bill is unacceptable.
FILL OUT THE FORM [[link removed]]
Use your own words and experiences to explain that LGBTQ+ topics and the experiences of people of color are necessary for all students’ learning.
Thank you for Rising Up.
In solidarity,
Melanie Willingham-Jaggers
