Friend, We wrapped up our first 22-county tour of this Congress! Check out our highlights from this round of stops below: 📍Floyd County (Charles City) - I hosted an economic development roundtable in Charles City in January and met with community leaders who are passionate about finding solutions for their county. 📍Chickasaw County (New Hampton) - I met with small business owners who are making their dreams a reality in New Hampton. 📍Cerro Gordo County (Mason City) - I toured North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City to see the unique educational programs they offer that help their students succeed in their chosen career path. 📍Linn County (Cedar Rapids) - I toured Mount Mercy University Nursing Clinical Simulation Laboratory and was very impressed by their hands-on approach. I am so grateful for those who are called into the health care profession! 📍Tama County (Dysart) - It was great to visit Youngblut Ag in Tama County to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill and the importance of pushing back against the Biden Administration's WOTUS rule. 📍Poweshiek County (Brooklyn) - I was excited to hear about the new projects coming to Poweshiek County at the Brooklyn Economic Development meeting in January, including a new child care center. 📍Benton County (Keystone) - I stopped at Main Street Bakery & Cafe in Benton County to meet with the owner, Kassie, who told me about the impacts of inflation, regulatory concerns, and staffing shortages. 📍Grundy County (Grundy Center) - I held an in-person town hall meeting in Grundy County. I will continue to hold in-person town hall meetings throughout the district to take your unfiltered questions. 📍Hardin County (Iowa Falls) - I visited several incredible female-owned Main Street shops in Iowa Falls and spoke with business owners who continue to grapple with supply chain trouble, workforce issues, and inflation. 📍Dubuque County (Dubuque) - I visited Centrally Rooted in Dubuque to see the wonderful work they are doing to help promote brain health through creative avenues like music therapy. 📍Delaware County (Manchester) - I hosted a roundtable in Manchester with women in ag, including farmers, agribusiness professionals, and ag educators. Iowa women are leading the way to feed and fuel the world! 📍Butler County (Clarksville) - I joined the Butler County Farm Bureau for a roundtable to get direct input on the upcoming Farm Bill. 📍Worth County (Northwood) - At Kibble Equipment, I saw firsthand how they are working to improve farmers’ livelihoods with innovative solutions, including precision agriculture technology, which is key to increasing crop yields and lowering input costs and environmental impacts. Feedback like this is why I introduced my PRECISE Act! 📍Mitchell County (Osage) - I held a roundtable with members of the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission to discuss opportunities for economic development in rural communities, including increasing access to broadband and affordable housing. 📍Howard County (Cresco) - I donated blood at the VFW Post in Cresco and answered questions from veterans on improving care at the VA and expanding veterans' mental health care access. 📍Buchanan County (Fairbank) - I visited the Little Island Child Care Center in Fairbank to hear about their work to provide child care services to those in the community. We discussed ways we can support child care workers and lower costs for both providers and working families. 📍Black Hawk County (Waterloo) - I met with the impressive students at the Waterloo Career Center and held a ceremony to congratulate our 2022 Congressional app challenge winner and participants. We talked about their future careers in tech and cyber security — I fully believe the next life changing technology will be developed by a Waterloo student. 📍Bremer County (Waverly) - Waverly Child Care and Preschool provides families with excellent child care and a variety of education programs. I visited WCCP to meet with their team and discuss ways we can improve child care and early education options. 📍Clayton County (Monona) - I had a great visit to K&S Machining. Cole and Sam started out with a few machines they operated out of their garages. Through hard work and determination, they’ve continued to build their customer base and expand their business. 📍Allamakee County (Postville) - I sat down with Postville Mayor Dennis Koenig, volunteers from Community Heart & Soul, and Crystal Duffy who leads the program to hear more about their work to make Postville the best place to live, work, and raise a family. 📍Winneshiek County (Calmar) - I enjoyed meeting with faculty members and students at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC)’s John Deere Technical Center and learning more about the skills they're gaining during the program. 📍Fayette County (Hawkeye) - I toured Country View Dairy farm to see the hard work they do to provide award-winning dairy products for the community. I highly recommend the strawberry yogurt and chocolate milk from their creamery! PHOTO GALLERY: First 22-County Tour of the 118th Congress Best, March Madness! March Madness is extra fun for Iowans this year -- for the first time in history, the men's and women's basketball teams from the University of Iowa, Iowa State, and Drake University are competing in the tournament. Check out my picks! Improving the USDA Last week, I participated in the House Appropriations Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration (Ag-FDA) Subcommittee hearing with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Inspector General Phyllis Fong to ensure the agency is best serving U.S. farmers and spending taxpayer dollars responsibly. I asked IG Fong about the importance of strengthening oversight over foreign acquisition of U.S. land, bolstering cybersecurity to protect our food supply, improving access to rural broadband, and helping young and beginning farmers purchase land. Reining in the Biden Regulatory Regime President Biden’s regulatory regime is a nightmare for hardworking Iowans. In just one year, President Biden’s Administration added over $200 billion in new regulatory costs through their heavy-handed rulemaking, and his excessive executive orders have cost taxpayers more than $1 trillion. This overregulation is pulling down our economy and fueling the inflation that is crushing everyone from seniors on fixed incomes to parents trying to feed their kids. Read more about how I'm fighting government red tape that makes your life harder and more expensive. On the Record: Bob Hemesath Last week, Bob Hemesath from the National Corn Growers Association joined me for an an "On the Record" Facebook Live conversation. We discussed his experience in ag, the effects the Mexican trade ban could have on Iowa corn growers, and Iowan farmers' priorities going into the 2023 Farm Bill. Watch the full conversation here.
