Open this today - we need to move quickly.? ? ? ? ? This story is still developing. A report released this week found toxic PFAS chemicals in the drinking water of dozens of U.S. cities where if had not been previously recorded: places including Miami, the New York City metropolitan area, and New Orleans.

PFAS are called "forever chemicals" because they take thousands of years to degrade. But just last week, the House passed legislation for safeguards to protect against PFAS chemicals.

With this new report, we need to move quickly to get this to a vote in the Senate.

Friend, we have a real shot here, I promise. This legislation passed the House with some rare Republican support, and there's already some indication that some Republican senators are on board, too. We are organizing in a big way to get this bill passed. We're ready to organize and flood swing Senate offices with calls and letters. We need your help.

A major donor has put up a $500,000 contribution to fund environmental campaigns like this one ? if 10,000 LCV members pitch in first.

The best thing you can do to help right now is renew your membership for 2020. And it only costs $5.

Friend: In reaching that goal, small donations count the same as big ones. Renewing your membership for just $5 could make the difference between funding some major environmental campaigns this year, or totally scaling back.

AND, if you make a donation of $35 or more, you'll get your choice of one of these awesome t-shirts to show your environmental pride: [link removed]
PFAS is a class of over 5,000 chemicals that are widely used in consumer products because of their nonstick and waterproof properties. The Defense Department used PFAS for decades in firefighting foam.

The chemicals have contaminated drinking water across the United States and are linked to multiple health problems such as thyroid issues, birth defects, and some cancers. Unbelievably, there is little required testing or cleanup, leaving families at risk.

After Trump's EPA failed to meet deadlines to protect families against PFAS, Congress has had to step in. And thanks to an outpouring of support, this legislation passed the House with some rare Republican support. We can get legislation passed to stop this dangerous pollution ? but we need your help to pull it off. Please, don't sit out this critical chance at a big win for the environmental movement.
