Through this series, When We All Vote is highlighting some of the people who work with us to ensure their communities are registered and ready to vote. So many of us make history every day, and we are proud to honor these Black Historymakers.

"I am a history maker because I am young, gifted, and Black." -- Rotimi Kuyoki
History has shown time and time again that our collective power moves mountains — who are your favorite history makers? Past or present and why?
"Ruby Bridges. Her story is important because when we think about our civil rights leaders we immediately go to adults, but she was a trailblazer in her own right — and experienced such hatred and pushback as a child. She showed what the power of youth can do while also showing that you don’t need to have high status to directly affect change. "

Rotimi’s “favorite thing” right now
“I want to give a shout-out to Birmingham, Alabama. I’m from Hoover, Alabama which is minutes away from Birmingham, and we have a grotesque but powerful history memorialized by the Civil Rights Movement. Its legacy still impacts the people that live here today. Birmingham is a testament to perseverance. And I love the progress we continue to make as a city.”
