Friend,
News outlets across the media landscape, from newspapers to online
outlets like Vox and nonprofit outlets like NPR, continue to announce
waves of layoffs. Even The Washington Post, owned by Jeff Bezos—one of
the richest people on the planet—has announced workforce cuts.
Common Dreams has an entirely different, people-powered model, but we
are not immune to many of the same economic trends forcing newsroom
layoffs, including inflation and shifting readerships.
In fact, while we never had a layoff at Common Dreams, our staff has
shrunk because we needed to leave some positions unfilled after staff
retired or moved on to other jobs.
We want to be completely transparent with you, our readers, because you
are an essential part of our community. Without your support, we simply
cannot exist.
So here’s the situation: In order to prevent layoffs, cutbacks, or
further staff reductions, we need to meet our Winter Campaign goal of
raising $80,000 and signing up 200 new monthly donors by March 1.
Can we count on you to help meet our Winter Campaign goal by becoming a
monthly donor—or making a one-time donation—to Common Dreams?
