The Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM) has selected Shante K. Avant as its new President and CEO. Avant has served the nonprofit sector for more than 26 years. She joined the Women’s Foundation as the Director of Grants and Programs in 2008. In 2011 she was promoted to Vice President and played a critical role in overseeing day-to-day operations, building relationships with community partners, and collaborating with local and national partners. Please help us welcome the new Director for Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women & Girls, Mary Grace Pagaduan. In this role, Mary Grace will execute FCCF’s long-term strategic plan for the Fund for Women and Girls. Prior to joining the Community Foundation, Mary Grace worked for Afya Foundation in Yonkers, NY where she spent the last 5 years as Director of Volunteer Programs. During her time there, she managed the organizations volunteer program; coordinating over 3,000 volunteers to sort, pack, and ship medical supplies to medically underserved areas in over 79 countries. Welcome Yamani Yansá Hernandez, the incoming Interim Executive Director for Groundswell Action Fund. Yamani is a visionary and transformative leader committed to the balance of rigor and compassion. She has 25 years of experience in the social sector at neighborhood, city, state, and national levels and is overjoyed to bring her leadership learnings to Groundswell Fund as Interim Executive Director. Carrie Crompton, Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis, recently joined KMOX [[link removed]] to share about the Women’s Foundation’s work acting as a catalyst for workplace, individual, and policy change to advance women’s economic success.

Sometime in 2023, all Australians will be asked to vote in a referendum to enshrine a First Nations Voice to parliament in our national constitution. This referendum represents a hopeful turning point for the nation — but in order for it to be successful, they need everyone involved in the conversation, listening and learning. In this panel, they will discuss:

Opportunities and Resources

Join the Spring 2023 Leader Cohort of Invest for Better. Invest for Better Circles [[link removed]] are facilitated by volunteer Leaders who want to activate their capital for good and build a community to help other women achieve their own goals for positive impact. Invest for Better manages 2 cohorts of Circles per year, supporting the Circle leaders with training, camaraderie, and support throughout. To learn more, click here [[link removed]].

Native Americans in Philanthropy is hosting a series of Member Education Sessions [[link removed]], where nonprofits, philanthropy, emerging leaders, and Native communities gather for discussions and collaborative action for building philanthropy rooted in Native traditions and values. On February 23 at 1:00 pm ET, join moderator Stephine “Steph” Poston and philanthropic changemakers, Sutton King, the Hon. Tammi Lambert, and Darius Lee Smith [[link removed]] as they share their personal experiences and discuss how philanthropy can better understand and support the issues facing our Black and Afro-Indigenous relatives. The Women's Philanthropy Institute will host a virtual launch of new research, Moving Money and Shifting Power for Social Justice: Voices of Wealthy Next-Gen Donors, which explores the motivations, behaviors, and challenges of young, affluent, social justice-minded philanthropists.

They will sit down with leading fundraisers, donors and thinkers in the social justice space to discuss the research findings. The conversation will help fundraisers better understand how young, wealthy donors give to social justice, and how the report insights can strengthen their fundraising efforts and donor relations. Donors will walk away with practical insights into social justice giving and how they can impact unjust systems.

Collective Power for Reproductive Justice is hosting a Zoom discussion [[link removed]] with leaders in reproductive justice and healthcare who are tackling racial health disparities both locally and nationally and creating models to support health equity. Panelists will include: Nashira Baril (Neighborhood Birth Center), Lilly Marcelin (Resilient Sisterhood Project), and Marisa Pizii (Collective Power for Reproductive Justice). The conversation will be facilitated by Natanja Craig-Oquendo (Boston Women’s Fund).
