Hi John,
It’s news you may have missed, but the leadership position of one of the
world’s most powerful financial institutions is up for grabs. The
President of the World Bank has announced that he will step down. This
clears the path for someone new to take control of the bank’s mission to
end extreme poverty.
Names are being circulated and an opportunity to change the way this
powerful bank works is on the horizon. In its eighty year history the
World Bank has done many things, but it hasn’t kept pace with a changing
world. For example there has never been a female President of the World
Bank!
We believe that with a new leader should come a new bank, and that now is
the time for a reset, to make the bank fit for the future. Do you agree?

The way the World Bank works is to reduce global poverty and help
countries to thrive, by providing resources and sharing knowledge with
governments in low and middle income countries. It is largely controlled
by some of the richest nations in the world - who have the power to decide
its leader.
Right now we’re all facing a long list of challenges which no country can
solve alone, so we need our global institutions to work.

power to appoint the new President that the public supports changes to how
the World Bank is run.
The petition reads:
We want a World Bank that is fit for the future. A bank that uses its
resources to tackle hunger, combat climate change, create more and better
jobs across Africa and end preventable diseases. A bank that recognises
that the world has changed and that it must change with it. We need a
leader that can make this happen. A leader who is committed to change and
has the skills to bring it. It’s time for a reset.
