36 years’ worth of fossil fuel emissions! But instead of appreciating these
forests for the protection they provide, P&G’s suppliers are cutting them down
and making a major contribution to the 18% of greenhouse gas emissions caused by
global deforestation.

In fact, Indonesia alone has lost nearly 10 million hectares of primary forest in the
past two decades!

But big corporations like P&G continue to be complicit in decimating these
critical forests with no consideration for the people and the planet. On top of
this, they are profiting from a long history of violent land grabbing abetted by Indonesian security forces and implicated in illegal deforestation.

While Procter & Gamble has promised to address these gross abuses, it is not
moving quickly enough. We need to increase the pressure and show that we need

mammal species, and an impressive 17% of all known bird species. What’s more,
they act as important carbon sinks that help curb fossil fuel emissions. Without
healthy forests, we can’t have a healthy planet.

But companies are taking over these lands for profit, cutting down the
rainforests and emitting huge amounts of carbon back into the atmosphere. In
fact, deforestation is a key driver of Indonesia’s status as a top greenhouse
gas emitter!
