Here are some updates from today.

​​A Georgia special grand jury probing former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election released some of its findings: “No widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election.” The report also concludes that a “majority of the Grand Jury believes that perjury may have been committed by one or more witnesses testifying before it,” which may result in indictments. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed Senate Bill 4B into law, which will allow statewide prosecutors to prosecute crimes investigated by the Office of Election Crimes and Security. The law takes effect immediately and will impact the prosecutions of formerly incarcerated individuals targeted by DeSantis’ election crimes office. [link removed]

Texas Republicans introduced a bill that would ban counties from opening polling locations on college and university campuses. This new bill is just the latest in a long line of attacks on young Americans’ right to vote in Texas. [link removed]

A federal court allowed a consolidated lawsuit challenging Arizona two voter suppression laws to continue. The laws impose overly strict proof of citizenship requirements on voters. [link removed]

Here’s what to expect tomorrow.

The nine U.S. Supreme Court justices have a private meeting where they will decide whether to grant cert (meaning, accept an appeal and hear oral argument) for various cases before the Court. There are four democracy-related cases the justices’ will consider tomorrow: Buck v. Reeves, Harness v. Watson, Cox v. Maryland State Board of Elections and Richardson v. Flores. North Carolina Republican legislators will submit supplemental briefing to the North Carolina Supreme Court in preparation for the unprecedented rehearing of two cases: one over partisan gerrymandering and the other over a photo ID law. [link removed]
