Texas Independence Day Celebration, Feb. 25-26
In a simple frame building in spring 1836, 59 delegates met to make a formal declaration of independence from Mexico. Today, a replica of that Independence Hall stands at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site [ [link removed] ], where an annual celebration will take place Feb. 25-26.
The free event features live music, food, living history presentations, musket and cannon firings, kids? activities, and other commemorative programs. Come see an authentic Texas Army camp where visitors can wander freely among the tents to learn how soldiers and their families experienced life in 1836.
