In his New York Times piece ([link removed]) , Jerry Kammer makes the liberal case for restricting immigration. He explains that when immigration is poorly managed, as it is right now, it causes social division and harms the most vulnerable. Like capitalism itself, it should be regulated in the national interest, not shaped to serve the free-market libertarianism of the right or the post-national humanitarianism of the left. Kammer traces the shift on the left over the years from a commitment to the rule of law and limits on immigration to an anti-borders position, justified under the banner of inclusiveness, equality, human rights, racial reconciliation and reparations for American interventions in the third world. But unfortunately, like factions on the right, tribal passions have warped the judgment of many on the left.

Federal Judge Blocks Refugee Resettlement Executive Order ([link removed])
By Andrew R. Arthur
Judge Peter J. Messitte of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland issued an order granting a preliminary injunction against the Departments of State, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security that prevents them from enforcing Executive Order 13888 and the FY 2020 Notice of Funding Opportunity for Reception and Placement Program. That order, and the opinion that accompanies it, raises the question: When is a consultation not a consultation? Answer: when a federal judge says so.
U.S.-Bound Migrants Gambling on Trump Defeat in November ([link removed])

Honduran Katherine Cabrera is among thousands of migrants who didn't expect to get bottled up in this southern Mexican city, unable to proceed to the American border as planned, because of President Donald Trump's insistence that Mexico block them with troop deployments and whatever else the Mexicans could come up with.
Marginal School, Blackballed by Other Colleges, Can't Accept F-1 Students ([link removed])
By David North
The DHS agency regulating schools for foreign students does not require that such schools be credentialed by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. That's a jaw-dropping statement, but is par for the course with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, perhaps the most lax of the immigration enforcement agencies despite its being run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement

By Jason Pena
Guatemalan authorities, accompanied by Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agents, dispersed a group of 300 migrants traveling with a caravan from Honduras. The migrants were returned to the border of Honduras by bus, putting an end to their journey to the United States.
