HEY Y'ALL!

The YOUNG DEMOCRATS OF NORTH CAROLINA’S RESILIENCE RECEPTION,
formerly known as the Gantt-Watt Reception, is a yearly tradition of
North Carolina’s youth auxiliary honoring the contributions of Black
Americans to North Carolina and the Democratic Party.

This year, our Host is Representative Diamond Staton-Williams
(D-Cabarrus). Rep. Staton-Williams made history this past November not
only becoming the first Democrat to represent Cabarrus County in
Raleigh in more than twenty years, but by BECOMING THE FIRST BLACK
STATE LEGISLATOR TO REPRESENT CABARRUS COUNTY IN THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY.

Representative Staton-Williams’ win was one of the two Red-to-Blue
flips in North Carolina that helped secure Governor Cooper’s veto
and stop Republicans from governing unchecked in our state. Her
candidacy helped to energize a cohort of young people to knock doors,
make phone calls, and poll greet all across Cabarrus County.

JOIN YDNC IN CONCORD ON FEBRUARY 25TH TO CELEBRATE HER WIN AND ENSURE
THAT WINS LIKE HERS CAN CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.

Representative Staton-Williams’ victory is a resounding testament to
her own personal resilience as a working mom who has battled adversity
to become the first Black woman to serve on the Harrisburg Town
Council to now represent Cabarrus County in Raleigh.

The result of Diamond Staton-Williams’ victory means that she will
be helping to lead the charge in defending reproductive freedoms,
fighting for fair maps, and working to help our neighbors and local
communities by expanding Medicaid in North Carolina.

That is why the Young Democrats of North Carolina cordially invite you
to join us in Concord, North Carolina on February 25th to hear from
and honor her and other prominent Black leaders from across Cabarrus
County and North Carolina for their service.
