Hi there Friend,
During this week’s State of the Union address, President Joe Biden
reminded Americans that climate action can’t wait.
“The climate crisis doesn’t care if your state is red or blue. It is an
existential threat,” Biden said. “We have an obligation to our children
and grandchildren to confront it.”
But it’s not just future generations that are harmed by pollution. The
[ [link removed] ]cost of inaction is real. And marginalized communities are already
[ [link removed] ]paying for it with their health.
President Biden and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently
[ [link removed] ]took a critical step toward cutting methane and other harmful
pollutants from the oil and gas industry – but there is more work to be
done to ensure that the EPA finalizes the strongest possible methane
safeguards to protect public health.
That’s where you come in, friend. If you are concerned about the impacts
of methane pollution, please [ [link removed] ]submit your comment to the EPA by February
13.
(If you represent a community organization, please submit your custom
comment [ [link removed] ]here or use a premade template [ [link removed] ]here.)
Not sure what to say? Check out these key points from our friends at the
Climate Action Campaign:
* Cutting methane pollution from the oil and gas industry is the
quickest, most cost effective way to slow the rate of climate change
and protect our health.
* Frontline communities bear the burden of oil and gas pollution that
affects their health, air, and water. It's time to stand up for these
families.
* The EPA's updated draft rule improves upon many of the standards in
the original draft rule released by EPA last year, including by
requiring regular monitoring at all well sites, but it does not go far
enough. There is more work to be done – especially on key issues like
the wasteful and dangerous practice of routine flaring.
During the State of the Union address, President Biden promised: “We will
finish the job.” Now it’s up to us to hold him to his word and remind the
administration how important clean air is to our communities.
[ [link removed] ]Submit your comment on methane and encourage President Biden to release
all administrative rules to address toxic power plant pollution for public
comment by [ [link removed] ]signing this petition today.
