Due to climate change, the Gulf of Maine is warming faster than 99% of the world’s oceans [[link removed]] .

But the good news is that it also has some of the strongest winds in the world — which can help us combat the climate crisis right here in Maine.

Here's how: responsibly developed floating offshore wind would contribute to Maine’s goal of 100% renewable electricity by 2050 and carbon neutrality by 2045 and benefit our economy and communities across the state.

It’s going to be a heavy lift to make offshore wind a reality in Maine. That's why we need your help to ensure that Maine’s offshore wind industry has the political support it needs to get off the ground.

Maine has a chance to lead the nation in developing an industry committed to strong equity and labor standards, environmental monitoring and mitigation, consistent collaboration with the fishing industry, and technological innovation. The University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center has long been a leader in floating offshore wind technology research and development, keeping Maine at the forefront of the field.

The Maine Governor’s Energy Office (GEO), after 18 months of collaborative stakeholder-driven work, recently released a draft of the Maine Offshore Wind Roadmap, a plan to develop an offshore wind industry that works for Maine’s people, economy, and heritage.
