Commissioner's Column

In the charity sector, like in the business sector, related party transactions are common. With new rules in effect, I urge you to ensure you are collecting information about your charity’s related party transactions.

We are currently consulting on how the related party transactions questions are framed in the AIS. I invite you to have your say. We want to ensure charities can report as easily as possible.

[[link removed]] Answering your questions

A few of the most common questions we have been hearing from charities recently...

Q. We want to start fundraising, but we don’t know who to report it to. Does ACNC need this information?

A. The ACNC does not collect details on fundraisers or provide any licence to fundraise – we only ask how much revenue you bring in by donations or fundraising in the Annual Information Statement.

Fundraising is regulated on a state and territory level, and we have some great resources online to help you understand what obligations each state might have, as well as how to contact the right government agency about it.

Q. I forgot to submit my charity's Annual Information Statement - what should I do?

A. Submit it as soon as you can! Even if it is overdue, you can still log in to the Charity Portal [[link removed]] [[link removed]]and submit it in the regular way.

There is no need to call us or email us.

Just submit it via the Charity Portal as soon as possible to avoid potential penalties or compliance action.
