(LANSING, MICH) This February, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is highlighting Insurance Careers Month [ [link removed] ] and the more than 80,000 Michiganders who work in the insurance field.
?Michigan is home to some of the nation?s largest insurance companies, many of which have a strong need for employees with a variety of skill sets, expertise, and backgrounds,? said *DIFS Director Anita Fox*. ?Nationally, nearly half of people currently working in insurance are expected to retire in the next ten years, so this is a great time for workers in this state to investigate what a career in the insurance industry could do for you, your family, and your future.?
A study [ [link removed] ] conducted by the Insurance Information Institute showed that more than 80,000 Michiganders work in the insurance industry, with salaries totaling approximately $6 billion a year. According to the Insuring MI Future Coalition, a 501(c)3 created to raise awareness of career opportunities in Michigan, careers in the insurance industry tend to be stable and high paying, with an average salary of $60,000, substantially higher than the average of $45,000 for other industries.?More information about the insurance industry is available on the National Insurance Careers Month website [ [link removed] ].
To fill new positions, companies in these industries need employees with a variety of educational backgrounds and skill sets, including:
