Focus on the Family Supports New Senate Bill to Protect Babies Born Alive During an Abortion

By: Nicole Hunt

Pro-life Senators James Lankford and John Thune introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate to protect babies born alive during an attempted abortion. Focus on the Family President Jim Daly offered his support for the measure and called the legislation “a matter of common-sense decency.” The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, S. 204, requires that healthcare workers provide medical care to infants that survive an abortion attempt.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a similar version of the bill, H.R. 26, also titled the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, on January 11, 2023. That measure was approved by a vote of 220 to 210 in the House.

Focus on the Family is among a coalition of pro-life organizations that lent support to the senate bill, including Family Policy Alliance, Family Research Council, Heritage Action, Americans United for Life, The National Right to Life Committee, March for Life, Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America, Students for Life Action, Faith and Freedom Coalition, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Pro-Life Activities and many others.

‘Black Lives Matter School Week of Action’ — Coming to Your Children’s School?

By: Jeff Johnston

This year’s “Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action” is just around the corner, scheduled for February 6-10. School districts across the country are participating in the event, promoted by BLM at School, a national group which provides lesson plans and resources for educators.

Parents will want to check and see if their school is participating in the event, as BLM at School works to indoctrinate students from K-12 into a radical political and sexual ideology.

BLM at School operates under “13 Guiding Principles.” Some of these sound good, such as teaching children about empathy and encouraging loving engagement with others. It’s important for children to know their lives matter and they are made to reflect God’s image. They should learn to love and respect all people.

Christians should be concerned about these issues and engage them, and it’s important for families to have meaningful discussions about our nation’s history of racism and hatred. And it’s vital for the church to bring healing to this brokenness in our world. But BLM at School has many principles and goals that are deeply troubling. The goal is to transform children into radical activists who “are committed to disrupting the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement.” Students are asked to support and affirm various sexual identities, gender identities and gender expressions.

Georgia Police Officer Resigns After Being Investigated for Affirming Biblical View of Marriage in Social Media Post

By: Bruce Hausknecht

Jacob Kersey, a 19-year-old police officer in Port Wentworth, Georgia was put on administrative leave on January 4 and investigated by his supervisors for posting the following comment on his Facebook page: “God designed marriage. Marriage refers to Christ and the church. That’s why there is no such thing as homosexual marriage.”

The three statements contained in the post are Christianity 101 truths, based on the clear teachings of the Bible about marriage (Genesis 2:24), God’s creation of mankind as “male and female” (Genesis 1:27), and the connection between Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:31-32).

But the post ultimately cost Officer Kersey his job. How did it happen?

Kersey’s supervisors at the police department received an anonymous “tip” about his January 2 post and confronted him about it.

How did he react to being questioned about the post by those in command?

In an email to the Daily Citizen, Kersey explained, “I was in complete disbelief but I immediately knew that I had to stand for the Word of God. I believe that was the Holy Spirit enabling me to make a Christ-glorying, God-honoring decision in the moment even if I did not understand what it would mean for my career.”

Remembering the Man Behind “Remember the Titans”

By: Paul Batura

Gregory Allen Howard, the Hollywood screenwriter best known for the inspirational movie, “Remember the Titans,” as well as the film, “Harriet,” died on Friday in Miami. He was a day shy of 71. The stepson of a Navy father, Howard moved around quite a bit as a child. He was born in Virginia and graduated from Princeton University with a degree in history.

“I didn’t know what my path would be, but it had to involve reading and writing history” he once said. Howard wound up working on Wall Street for a season following college, but eventually headed to California to pursue a screenwriting career. Once on the west coast, he wrote for television and began writing a movie centered on the life of Harriet Tubman, the legendary abolitionist. But he couldn’t find an agent, and studio after studio declined to pick up the treatment. But then came a decision that would change Gregory Howard’s life.

Moving back to Virginia, the struggling writer was struck by how well white and black people got along in his new town of Alexandria. He wondered why and began asking questions. People kept telling him about Herman Boone, who coached T.C. Williams High School’s first integrated football team back in 1971.

Herman Boone was from North Carolina, but his coaching and teaching would bring him to Virginia. It was 1969 when Boone was hired to run the junior varsity wrestling program at T.C. Williams.

Minnesota Governor Signs Radical Abortion Bill into Law

By: Zachary Mettler

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has signed a radical abortion bill into law, reaffirming that abortion is legal in the state and that every woman has a “fundamental right” to kill their preborn child up until the moment of birth.

The bill, the Protect Reproductive Options Act (PRO Act or HF 1), states:

“Every individual has a fundamental right to make autonomous decisions about the individual’s own reproductive health, including the fundamental right to use or refuse reproductive health care.

Every individual who becomes pregnant has a fundamental right to continue to pregnancy and give birth, or obtain an abortion, and to make autonomous decisions about how to exercise this fundamental right.”

The Act makes Minnesota the first state to codify abortion via legislation since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022.

In a statement after signing the bill into law on January 31, Gov. Walz said the bill delivers on his promise to ensure “reproductive freedom.”

“This legislation will ensure Minnesotans have access to reproductive health care for generations to come. Here in Minnesota, your access to reproductive health care and your freedom to make your own health care decisions are preserved and protected,” the governor said.

Of course, the governor didn’t mention the generations of young Americans who will never be born due to Minnesota’s lenient abortion laws and the PRO Act.
