Happy Black History Month, team!

I am honored to welcome you to Black History Month as the new First Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus which is also celebrating its largest cohort – 58 members, including 9 new members – in 50 years.

As I reflect on this role and this month, I feel like I am a bridge between Black History and the future of Black Excellence in this country. My mother, Dr. Clarke, is a part of New York’s Black History having served as the first Caribbean-born woman elected to New York City's legislature.

Now, I’m the only Black woman representing New York in Congress.

Straddling the past and future, it feels like we have a unique opportunity right now. We’re electing even more Black members every day, and in particular, Black women.

But we still have a long way to go. We’re still mourning and outraged in the brutal murder of Tyre Nichols and fighting to finally pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

We’re still fighting against systemic white supremacy in housing, medicine, and education.

But for now, I’m just so proud to be standing on the shoulders of all the Black leaders before me and happy to uplift the next generation of Black leaders as well.

To help me celebrate Black History Month, will you make a split donation to my re-election campaign and Milk River PAC which supports Black women running for office? [[link removed]]
