When it comes to the federal judiciary, representation matters. Federal judges play a crucial role in shaping the laws and policies that impact our communities, which is why we're encouraged to see the Biden administration prioritizing diversity and representation in their appointments to the bench. Of the judges appointed by President Biden [[link removed]] in the past two years, 75% are women, 47% are women of color, and 67% are people of color. We love to see it!

Enough is enough. Even though we are less than a month into 2023, there have been 40 mass shootings in the United States, with two of them happening in the past week in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay, California. As we mentioned in our statement [[link removed]] this week, these tragedies and the rise of anti-Asian violence have sadly become far too common in recent years.
However, we also need to talk about the living and working conditions [[link removed]] of the Half Moon Bay victims: underpaid migrant farmers who “lived in trailers [with their families] on the property, cooked outdoors in makeshift kitchens, used portable toilets, and had their rent deducted from their paychecks.”

President Biden won his presidential campaign on the promise to keep immigrant communities safe. Yet, according to United We Dream’s tracker [[link removed]] , more than 4 million individuals have been deported or expelled. President Biden must put an end to all deportations immediately!

We’re staffing up—and still hiring [[link removed]] for a couple full-time remote positions and internships—and getting ready to shake up the status quo even more by training more New American leaders on how to run, win, and lead in 2023. Stay tuned!
The Florida Phoenix News [[link removed]] cited our 2021 State of Pay report to highlight the continued inefficiencies of running part-time state legislatures. In the Florida legislature, 78% of legislators report having a second source of income from another occupation.
As we note in our report [[link removed]] , raising the salaries of Florida legislators to the state average—which, in Florida, hovers around $50,000—would lessen the need for a second job and open the door for them to devote more time to constituent services and legislative action.
Women, especially women of color, are severely underrepresented in politics. But we’re working to change that with our funder, the Ascend Fund.
Better representation leads to better governance, and we’re committed to empowering New American women to run, win, and lead. Read more in this Inside Philanthropy article. [[link removed]]

Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
