Good news! We've extended the application deadline for our Ready to Lead: Midwest training in Detroit, Michigan on February 24-26 to Monday, January 30th! That gives you—or someone you know who should take the training (please help spread the word!)—a few more days to fill out the app.
By attending Ready to Lead: Midwest, you'll learn how to own your power, share your authentic New American story, connect and engage with voters, fundraise, and get ready to shake up politics as usual. But most importantly, you'll connect with other New Americans ready to create a stronger, more inclusive democracy.
So what do you say? Apply for Ready to Lead: Midwest by 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, January 30th and be the leader your community has been waiting for!
It’s a new year with new team members here at New American Leaders! Recently, three new people have joined the squad, and we couldn’t be more excited. Please welcome:
- Zena Jahmi: Progam and Data Coordinator
- Rhiannon Koh: Digital Content Specialist
- Dani Mitchell: Executive Assistant to the President and Office Manager
We’re staffing up—and still hiring for a couple full-time remote positions and internships—and getting ready to shake up the status quo even more by training more New American leaders on how to run, win, and lead in 2023. Stay tuned!
The Florida Phoenix News cited our 2021 State of Pay report to highlight the continued inefficiencies of running part-time state legislatures. In the Florida legislature, 78% of legislators report having a second source of income from another occupation.
As we note in our report, raising the salaries of Florida legislators to the state average—which, in Florida, hovers around $50,000—would lessen the need for a second job and open the door for them to devote more time to constituent services and legislative action.
Women, especially women of color, are severely underrepresented in politics. But we’re working to change that with our funder, the Ascend Fund.
Better representation leads to better governance, and we’re committed to empowering New American women to run, win, and lead. Read more in this Inside Philanthropy article.
