96 2023 is Underway FILE: Chairman Kyle Hupfer and Governor Eric
Holcomb speak with then-candidate for mayor of Muncie Dan Ridenour
during a stop on the state party's 2019 mayoral blitz.
It's hard to
believe it, but the first major deadline of the 2023 election cycle is
fast approaching — the primary filing deadline.

So, if you're
interested in running for office in your city or town for a seat on the
council, or as clerk-treasurer, or even mayor, you have until next
Friday, February 3 at noon to file your declaration of candidacy.

I
know it seems like it's only the national presidential or statewide
elections that get all the attention from the media, but please, make no
mistake: local elections are just as important.

It's the people in
these positions who decide which of your local roads or streets get
fixed, what parks to improve, or how much support to give to your local
police officers and firefighters. It's these decisions that directly
impact you every day, that impact your family, and that impact your
neighbors.

And as Indiana continues to grow, you want to make sure
that your city or town is doing everything that it can to grow along
with it. It's up to all of us to keep our communities a place that we're
proud to call home and work to make it one others will too.

So if
you're interested in making this happen as a candidate, make sure you
file on time. And if you want to be the person that helps such a
candidate win, be sure to get connected.

Enjoy this week's newsletter
and share it with a friend.

Sincerely,

Chairman Kyle Hupfer
Governor Holcomb's Week That WasCelebrating School Choice in the
Hoosier State Governor Eric Holcomb poses with students at the
statehouse to celebrate National School Choice Week on Jan. 25, 2023.
With this week officially proclaimed as "School Choice Week" in Indiana,
Governor Eric Holcomb joined students, teachers, lawmakers, and
advocates for a school choice celebration at the statehouse on
Wednesday.

In his remarks to the crowd, Gov. Holcomb stated,
"Knowledge is power. But when you add freedom and opportunity, it's a
superpower."

The statewide proclamation (which you can view

importance of access to effective education and the importance of
raising public awareness of effective options for Hoosier students.

The number of migrant

December alone, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confirmed Friday
evening — marking a new high for the Biden-era border crisis as it
enters its third year.

There were 251,487 migrant encounters at the
southern border for the month of December, surpassing the 179,253
encountered in December 2021, and the 73,994 encountered in December
2020.

Sources had told Fox News earlier this week that the number of
encounters would surpass 250,000, which is even higher than the peak in
2022’s historic year, which came in May when numbers hit 241,136,
during what are typically busier summer months.

Story continues.
And on Wednesday, House Republicans announced the first House Judiciary
Committee hearing on the border crisis.
