John, get this –
I just applied to rent an apartment in DC where I had admitted upfront that my credit was really bad. He said I’d be fine. But I just got denied, lost the apartment – and my application fee.
Even I, as a soon-to-be Member of Congress, am getting rejected by apartments because of the financial system designed to hold working people back.
Our housing system is broken. Working-class people are facing skyrocketing rent, gentrification, and de facto segregation. And it’s become crystal clear that we can’t rely on the same old institutions to fix the same old problems.
We NEED and DESERVE young, working, everyday people in Congress who know firsthand the struggles of the working-class, including the increasingly dire housing crisis.
John, I’m ready to advocate for better and fairer housing policies in Congress, but I need your help. Can you make a contribution to my campaign today to help me stay on track for my End of Year goal? I’m still $8,936 short of what we need to raise today >> ([link removed])
John, our political system makes it very difficult for people like myself to run for office.
The whole reason I have bad credit is because I ran up a lot of debt running for Congress for a year and a half. For that primary, I quit my full-time job because I knew that to win at 25 years old, I’d need to be a full-time candidate: 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day.
As a candidate, you can’t give yourself a paycheck until the very end of your campaign. For most of the run, you have no money coming in unless you work a second job. For me, I drove for Uber at night, but that still wasn’t enough to pay for my living expenses.
These financial inequities are why over 50% of people serving in Congress are millionaires. It’s no wonder that Congress hasn’t passed policies to help working families when politicians are so disconnected from the average American.
I hate asking for campaign contributions, but it’s the only way working people like myself can break into the system. My campaign needs to raise $8,936 by midnight to stay on track for our End of Year budget goals. Will you pitch in $27 now? >> ([link removed])
