As one of the lead organizers of the Black Lives Matter protests in Orlando, I was tear-gassed, arrested, and jailed. All for nonviolent protesting on the frontlines against our broken system. But now, we have a seat at the table.
The same streets I was arrested on for nonviolent protest, I am now representing in the United States Congress.
It wasn’t easy – our broken system is designed to keep everyday people like myself out of office. But we beat the odds. Together.
