Dear John,
It took them a while, but the new Republican-led House of Representatives has elected its leaders, settled on its rules of operation, and they're already hard at work.
One of the House leaders' early priorities is CLEANING UP THE MESS AT THE BORDER! What might this include?
⇒
Reform how the Asylum process works. The current system is a laughingstock. Literally millions of people are crossing the U.S. Mexico border, many of whom are claiming they need asylum. Very few will ever be granted asylum by a judge. But the system is so backed up that it may be years before most asylum seekers ever have to defend their claims before a judge.
Meanwhile, the current dysfunctional system and the reckless Biden administration are allowing enormous numbers of these individuals to come in, stay and often work in the United States. Whatever happens to them in court, very few will ever be forced to leave this country. Furthermore, the Biden administration has given asylum officers authority to grant asylum to border crossers on the spot, without even seeing a judge! Bills being worked on behind the scenes now would straighten out most of these abuses.
⇒
Make E-Verify mandatory for every U.S. employer. Why is there illegal immigration in the first place? The biggest single reason is jobs. Illegal aliens work cheap because they are in no position to bargain. Less-than-scrupulous employers hire them. Many employers don't even know that people that they hire are illegal because they aren't using a government system, E-Verify, that makes sure newly hired workers are eligible to work in the U.S. Answer? Make it mandatory. Bills being worked on right now will do that.
⇒
End catch-and-release loopholes, including parole abuse, that have allowed hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to cross into the U.S. illegally, and then just be released into the population.
⇒
Create an authority to immediately expel illegal aliens across the border. . . . and much more!
Besides all this, the House will be using its investigative powers to grill administration officials like Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
John, what makes the Republican takeover of the House encouraging is that Republicans have changed for the better on immigration.
We believe that perhaps for the first time, House Republicans are ready to stand together and get something done about immigration. We've always had some members of Congress who were eager to fight for our cause, but we haven't had a party unified behind it like Republicans in the House are now.
Of course, the Republicans are far from having the supermajority needed to override a Presidential veto. They don't even control the Senate! We need Republicans to be willing to fight harder to include immigration enforcement in must-pass legislation than the Democrats are willing to fight to block it. Also, and this is very important, at NumbersUSA we are always working to influence Democratic Members of Congress to stand up for the American worker. Some are listening!
We're standing by, ready to push great immigration bills through the process. When I say "push," I mean P-U-S-H Hard!!! But we need your help. What we do and how we do it costs money, and I know, John, how much you care about reforming America's out-of-control immigration system. So, I need to ask for your help again.
Please help us to get off to a strong start in this new legislative year with a donation. We need you!
