Today, Democracy Docket published a report that summarizes and analyzes all of the democracy-related litigation filed in 2022. We highlight the trends that emerged in tracking these lawsuits, including the party breakdown, the focus of the lawsuits, which states saw the most litigation and the positive versus negative outcomes of the orders that came down. Our report found that courts sided more often with voters over anti-voting forces in 2022. [link removed]

Here are some updates from the last few days.

​​The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless, Ohio Federation of Teachers, Ohio Alliance for Retired Americans and Union Veterans Council sued Ohio over the voter suppression law Gov Mike DeWine (R) signed into law last Friday. [link removed]

Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor state lawmakers introduced a major package of pro-voting reforms, the “Democracy for the People Act, last week. The bill would allow 16- and 17- year olds to pre-register to vote, establish automatic voter registration, create a public campaign funding system and more. [link removed]

State legislators across the country are reconvening to consider new laws for elections and voting rights. One common theme already emerging is laws improving voting access for individuals with felony convictions, a major priority of voting rights activists in recent years.[link removed]

Lycoming County, Pennsylvania began a hand recount of the 2020 election. [link removed]

Republicans in Harris County, Texas are trying to overturn election results — even in races where they lost by wide margins. [link removed]

The New Mexico Supreme Court held oral argument today in a lawsuit against the state’s congressional districts. At issue was whether the trial court acted improperly when it denied the defendants’ motion to dismiss the case. [link removed]
