Dear Friend, Happy New Year! I hope you were able to spend time with friends and family over the holidays. Serving Iowans in Congress is the greatest honor of my life, and I'm excited the new Second Congressional District includes Butler, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Floyd, Grundy, and Hardin Counties. I've traveled across Northeast Iowa and heard directly from Iowa families, farmers, veterans, and small business owners. The concerns Iowans talk about around their kitchen tables every night are my priorities in Washington. Here is what I promise to work on for you this Congress: Restoring fiscal responsibility: It's past time that Washington starts budgeting like Iowa families and small businesses do. I'll continue to reject wasteful spending and advocate for commonsense economic policies that respect taxpayers. Unleashing American energy: President Biden's energy policies have been a disaster. We need to maximize domestic energy production and expand the use of Iowa biofuels to lower costs across our supply chain, bolster our national security, and restore American energy independence. Securing the border: There were over 233,000 illegal immigrant encounters at our Southern Border in November -- nearly three times the size of the City of Dubuque. I will continue pushing for policies that secure our border to keep our communities safe. Amid the dysfunction we've seen in Washington, I’m looking ahead at the opportunities we have to finally hold the Biden Administration accountable and put our country back on the path to prosperity. Let's get to work! Best, Empowering Farmers, Not Bureaucrats Last week, the Biden Administration announced new regulations on Iowa farmers and producers, taking power from the Iowa agriculture community and giving it right to Washington bureaucrats. This latest government overreach only creates more uncertainty for farmers and landowners. I will continue to push back on this overreach because farmers are the best stewards of their land, not the federal government. Read more HERE. Preparedness, Not Pronouns There is no room for woke politics in our military. Senator Tom Cotton and I are working to ensure our military is focused on preparedness, not pronouns. Read an excerpt from our op-ed in Fox News below and read the full piece HERE. "Earlier this year, the U.S. Air Force Academy had cadets participate in a seminar that instructs them against using the word "terrorist" and to avoid gender specific phrases. When we’re training cadets how not to offend terrorists rather than how to destroy them, we need to seriously review our priorities. Not only do these politically correct lessons alienate a large percentage of cadets and potential recruits, but they also take time away from more important training that ensures our success on the battlefield." Our Priority is the American People The GOP House majority's priorities are the priorities of the American people. We are going to restore fiscal responsibility, unleash American energy dominance, and secure our border. Watch my interview on Fox news HERE. New DC Office Location Our DC office has moved! Iowans can come visit us at 1717 Longworth House Office Building in Washington, DC. We hope to see you soon. Family Time in DC My family joined me this week in Washington, DC for the start of the 118th Congress. It was so special to have my family by my side in DC. The opening of a new session was a pretty great civics lesson for Max and Jax and they loved checking out the Air & Space Museum! Poll: Top Congressional Priorities The 118th Congress is underway and I need your input! Please let me know what you want a Republican-led House to focus on over the next two years. Which issue should be the top priority this Congress? Restoring fiscal responsibility Securing the border Conducting oversight of the Biden Administration Holding China accountable Unleashing domestic energy Facebook Twitter Instagram Stay Connected Rep.
