EITC Receipt
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is associated with improved health
outcomes and has been shown to improve maternal and child health and
reduce public spending on health.
In their December 2022 Health Affairs article, Dana Thomson and
coauthors examineEITC receipt among eligible Hispanic families
<[link removed]>.
The authors discover that Hispanic income-eligible families with
children had lower odds of EITC receipt than their peers.
Thomson and coauthors also report "lower odds of EITC receipt among
income-eligible families with a self-employed parent, families with a
parent who had lower English language proficiency, and families living
with relatives."
In comparison, "income-eligible families that received Medicaid, food
assistance, and other government benefits were more likely to receive
the EITC than families who did not receive these benefits."
Read more about the relationship between health and income support
programs in our latest issue.
