Nurses Can Protect Health Care for Transgender, Gender-Nonbinary
Miles Harris, FNP-BC, AAHIVS, writes about the steps large and small that nurses can take to make health care safe and inclusive for transgender and gender-nonbinary people. The assistant clinical professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis quotes the recent report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to emphasize why such actions are important: &ldquo;People deserve to count and be counted.&rdquo;

In its 50 episodes, the Pennsylvania Action Coalitions&rsquo;s podcast for and about nurses has informed listeners about a range of topics, including pediatric home care, sexual assault nurse examiners, and health care for refugees. Paper Shines Light on Student Pathway to Nursing
To increase health equity, the Delaware Action Coalition is planting the idea of a nursing career early in students from all backgrounds and writes about it in NASN School Nurse. &ldquo;Moving Upstream to Address Health Inequity: A Middle School Program to Introduce Students to a Career in Nursing&rdquo; describes how several school nurses in the Brandywine School District piloted the program, which was supported in part by a Campaign Nursing Innovations Fund award. Funds Offered to Organizations To Help Ease Nursing Shortage
Institutions with programs that can help increase the number of nursing educators and expand and diversify the pipeline of nursing professionals are invited to apply for the U.S. Department of Labor&rsquo;s new Nursing Expansion Grant Program, which offers $80 million to help ease America&rsquo;s nursing shortage. One aim is to increase the number of educators; the second, to advance nurses in their educations and careers. Applications are due by January 6.
