Read More in the Tri-City Herald 2022 Central Washington Congressional App Challenge Winner This week, I was happy to announce Advaitha Motkuri, from Richland High School, as the winner of this year's Central Washington Congressional App Challenge. Her app, People's Pupil: A Detection in Intoxication, would use pupil size to detect levels of intoxication. If a person is intoxicated, the app would immediately call an Uber for them. Each year the Congressional App Challenge highlights the bright minds of our nation's future leaders in STEM, computer science, and coding skills. Congratulations Advaitha, I am confident that you and other Central Washington students will continue to learn and grow in this field! View Advaitha's Presentation Here Meeting with the Association of Washington Business This week I was delighted to speak with the Association of Washington Business (AWB) during their fly-in to DC. We discussed some of the work I have been doing in Congress on behalf of Central Washington and how we can continue to work together in the coming year. AWB has nearly 7,000 members who represent over 700,000 employees across the state, advocating for economic prosperity and pushing Washington to be a global leader in innovation and a world-class workforce. It is always a pleasure to see other Washingtonians in our nation's capital, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside AWB for all of Central Washington. Supporting Our Troops from Home Our servicemembers sacrifice so much for our country, and the holidays can be a particularly tough time of year. This week, I stopped by the Red Cross to sign some holiday cards for our troops serving overseas. We can never truly repay the brave men and women who sacrifice so much for our great country, but it is important to do small acts like this to say "thank you" to our heroes. Thank you to all those who are serving overseas this holiday season! Providing Opportunities for STEM Students to Grow By providing opportunities for broadband investment, our rural teachers, students, and communities will have the ability to access the tools they need. By enhancing STEM education in rural schools, we are creating opportunities for Central Washington’s students to compete for high-paying jobs and strengthening our international competitiveness. I am proud to represent the hard-working students and teachers of Central Washington, and I look forward to continuing to work to promote rural STEM education in Congress.
