Fellow Conservative,

Today, Congress will vote on the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” (RFMA) which would codify the Supreme Court’s Obergefell decision, and repeal the Defense of Marriage Act which defined marriage as being between one man and one woman.

But what Obergfell does not do is allow a private right of action for citizens to sue religious institutions and individuals for their beliefs in traditional marriage.

RFMA would not affect the state of marriage in America, but it would paint a target <[link removed]> on the back of those who sincerely believe that marriage exists only between one man and one woman.

This is unacceptable. <[link removed]>

Before the Senate votes on final passage they will have the option to adopt an amendment proposed by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). This amendment would adequately ensure the protection of religious liberty and requires 60 votes to pass.
Marco Rubio (R-FL), and James Lankford (R-IN) also have proposed amendments to protect religious liberty.

But even with these amendments, Congress still should not be passing significant legislation in a lame duck Congress. Now that elections are over, all major legislation should be conducted after the new Congress takes their seats in January.

>>> CALL NOW <[link removed]> and tell your senator to vote “YES” on Mike Lee’s amendment to protect religious liberty. This amendment offers the strongest protections to people and institutions of faith.

For more info about the bill, please read Heritage Action’s key vote <[link removed]>. This bill clearly undermines religious liberty as written, and we are encouraging Senators to vote NO on the bill.
