** Bernie Needs You This January!
------------------------------------------------------------
We have ONE MONTH left until voting begins in the 2020 Democratic primary, meaning we have limited time left to make Bernie Sanders the Democratic nominee. The DSA 4 Bernie Working Group is ramping up its efforts this month: from talking to voters about what separates Bernie from his competitors, to hosting opportunities to learn about the Senator's past and present labor efforts.

ALSO, this month DSA will kick off our largest ever Week of Action for Medicare for All. The week of January 13th-20th, chapters across the country will be canvassing, phone banking, and hosting debate watch parties to support Bernie as he fights for healthcare as a human right. Be a part of this national week of action and attend one of our local DSA 4 Bernie events!

The DSA 4 Bernie Working Group is asking Metro DC DSA members to show their support this month and turn out for Bernie. Here are some ways you can get involved:

January 8th:Film Screening - Bernie’s 1979 Eugene V. Debs Documentary

Did you know that before becoming the politician that we know and love, Bernard Sanders was an amateur documentarian?

Join us at Colony Club on January 8th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm to watch his work on Eugene Debs followed by a conversation on Bernie and Socialism and how you can help him win the election in 2020, including information about our canvass on Jan. 11 in Hyattsville.

January 11th and 18th: DSA 4 Bernie Canvass

Is your New Years resolution to get more steps? Participate in a revolution? Then come knock doors for Bernie!

We will meet at Prince George’s Plaza Metro on January 11th and West Hyattsville Metro on January 18th, 12-3:30 pm. We will meet outside metro (usually very near the entrance) to get organized, distribute turfs, and pair off.

If this is your first time canvassing, first of all, welcome! We will provide a short training at noon, run through the script, teach you how to use MiniVAN, and pair you up with a veteran canvasser. We’ll all gather at a bar afterwards to chat about how the canvass went and discuss future events for Bernie!

Dress in layers and comfortable shoes. Bring along snacks and water. If you can, download the MiniVAN app ahead of the canvass and make sure your phone is fully charged.See you there!

January 14th: Debate Watch Party

The DSA for Bernie Working Group is hosting a debate watch party on Tuesday, January 14th. Only five candidates have qualified so far, and Bernie’s recent momentum is undeniable. The exact location is TBD, keep an eye out for the Meetup and Facebook Events!

While you’re there, pick yourself up a DSA for Bernie button—the proceeds help us put on events and support our common goal: getting Sanders in the White House!

Come to cheer Bernie on as he shows his competitors what it looks like to have the guts to stand up to private insurance, the fossil fuel industry, and the billionaire class.

January 15th: Bernie Sanders and the Workplace Democracy Act

Bernie Sanders' Workplace Democracy Act is the most ambitious platform for worker's rights ever put forward by a Presidential Candidate in modern history. If passed into law the plan would dramatically increase access to unions for millions of workers, meaning a huge rise in living standards and give workers a real voice at work.

Join labor activists in DC as we discuss why expanding union rights for workers is so critical, what Sanders' plan would mean, and how we as workers and labor activists can help push the fight for workers democracy through Bernie and beyond.

We’ll be at the Lamond-Riggs Library in NE DC (5401 S Dakota Ave NE, Washington D.C. 20011) on Wednesday, January 15th, 6:30-8:30 pm. Invite workers and share!

We hope to see everyone who believes that Medicare is for all, that housing is a human right, that billionaires are policy failures, that our economy should be green, and that wars should end show up to an event this month.

In solidarity,

DSA 4 Bernie Working Group
