Just over a week later, the dust is starting to settle on the 2022 midterms. Democrats have officially won the Senate, and Republicans will likely win an extremely narrow majority in the U.S. House. While we didn’t win every race we’d hoped to win, we should all be pretty damn proud of how we beat the odds.

On the federal level, this is a history-defying result. The results at the state level may be even more astounding. Every election denier on the ballot in swing states was defeated. Democrats achieved new trifectas in Minnesota, Michigan, Maryland, and Massachusetts, flipped the Arizona governorship, and may pick up legislative chambers in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. These are the kind of wins that build a movement that lasts.

But we’re not quite done yet. The Georgia runoffs are on Tuesday, December 6th, less than three weeks away, and we’ve got work to do to help Georgians get out the vote one more time (spare a thought for our friends in Georgia who will still be seeing campaign ads over Thanksgiving...) 

Democrats have already secured 50 votes in the Senate, enough for a majority with Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote. But if we put in the effort in Georgia, we could have a real majority that would mean...

- Control of committees. With the 50-50 Senate, Republicans and Democrats split committee seats equally, which enabled Republicans to gum up the process of moving legislation and nominations forward. Especially on judicial nominations, a 51 vote majority will make a big difference.
- A little more leeway in 2024. The 2024 map is not great for Democrats, and holding onto this seat makes the path to keeping power much easier 
- Manchin and Sinema become less influential, which would be nice for us to be annoyed mostly by Republicans in the Senate for the next two years instead of these two all the time. 

And of course, it would mean a qualified, dedicated representative for the people of Georgia instead of a MAGA former football star.

Here are a few ways you can help make all of that a reality:

First, chip in a few bucks to support the voter turnout efforts in the final stretch if you can. In addition to donating directly to make sure the Warnock campaign has the resources they need in the final stretch, we've also updated our Every Last Vote fund to support a coalition of grassroots groups (including Black Voters Matter, New Georgia Project, Mijente, and others) to assist with all of the voter education and turnout work that has to get done in a very short period of time, which will also be an investment in keeping Georgia blue long after December 6th.

Second, help make sure that there are poll watchers available to serve as a resource for voters at every polling place. If you're able to travel to Georgia, you can become a poll watcher yourself. Otherwise, make phone calls to reactivate poll watchers from November.
