Hi there!

This week’s is going to be a short (and slightly delayed) newsletter because I got to head back to the mothership, Poynter HQ, last week, just in time for Hurricane Nicole. (Hey, Higher Power, can Florida get a break, please?)

Next week I’ll be excited to tell you all about the reason for my trip: the Bowtie Ball, where Poynter honored Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.

For now, I’m looking at my calendar and realizing it’s almost Thanksgiving. That’s right — the end is in sight!

** ICYMI
------------------------------------------------------------

I’m not sure why I find this story ([link removed]) about paper SATs flying out of a UPS truck so compelling but I do. Can you imagine?

** Classroom/newsroom resources
------------------------------------------------------------

RJI is launching a source tracker ([link removed]) and a corresponding playbook ([link removed]) for small newsrooms to assist with DEI improvement. Interestingly, it puts sources in charge of reporting their demographics. I suspect this could be useful to college newsrooms and class projects. ** Story ideas
------------------------------------------------------------

Oof, this quote! “Nobody should have a poverty-level job in higher education.” What’s happening with pay for the staffers at your university ([link removed]) ? Dining service workers may just be the tip of the iceberg.

Please reflect on this New York Times story and see how it inspires your assignment brain: “New Endorsements for College Athletes Resurface an Old Concern: Sex Sells” ([link removed])

** Resources for educators
------------------------------------------------------------
* Teach your students how to master the flood of suspicious information taking over the internet with this free, self-directed course ([link removed]) from MediaWise’s Campus Correspondents.
* Get access to a growing library of case studies —Professor’s Press Pass ([link removed]) .
