Hi there!
This week’s is going to be a short (and slightly delayed) newsletter because I got to head back to the mothership, Poynter HQ, last week, just in time for Hurricane Nicole. (Hey, Higher Power, can Florida get a break, please?)
Next week I’ll be excited to tell you all about the reason for my trip: the Bowtie Ball, where Poynter honored Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein.
For now, I’m looking at my calendar and realizing it’s almost Thanksgiving. That’s right — the end is in sight!

I’m not sure why I find this story about paper SATs flying out of a UPS truck so compelling but I do. Can you imagine?
Classroom/newsroom resources
RJI is launching a source tracker and a corresponding playbook for small newsrooms to assist with DEI improvement. Interestingly, it puts sources in charge of reporting their demographics. I suspect this could be useful to college newsrooms and class projects. Learn more in this Nov. 18 webinar.
Story ideas
Oof, this quote! “Nobody should have a poverty-level job in higher education.” What’s happening with pay for the staffers at your university? Dining service workers may just be the tip of the iceberg.
