** Vote by Tuesday, November 8
------------------------------------------------------------
Tuesday is the midterm election and people are freaking out. As Democratic Socialists, we believe in democracy and our mechanism for that (however flawed) is elections. Please consider voting if you haven’t already.
We have a few recommendations that you can feel good casting:
** YES Amendment 1
------------------------------------------------------------
The Workers’ Rights Amendment would add the following section to the Illinois Constitution:
“SECTION 25. WORKERS’ RIGHTS
(a) Employees shall have the fundamental right to organize and to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing for the purpose of negotiating wages, hours, and working conditions, and to protect their economic welfare and safety at work. No law shall be passed that interferes with, negates, or diminishes the right of employees to organize and bargain collectively over their wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment and workplace safety, including any law or ordinance that prohibits the execution or application of agreements between employers and labor organizations that represent employees requiring membership in an organization as a condition of employment.”
** RACHEL VENTURA
------------------------------------------------------------
IL State Senate (District 43)
** ANDREW ENGLEBRECHT
------------------------------------------------------------
Will County Board (District 4)
** DESTINEE ORTIZ
------------------------------------------------------------
Will County Board (District 9)
** JUDGE ELIZABETH ROCHFORD
------------------------------------------------------------
Supreme Court 2nd District
Given the repeal of Roe v. Wade nationally, power returns to the states on any number of issues, including abortion access. Even if not the most progressive, she is not openly and staunchly conservative like the alternative.
** JUDGE MARY KAY O’BRIEN
------------------------------------------------------------
Supreme Court 3rd District
Given the repeal of Roe v. Wade nationally, power returns to the states on any number of issues, including abortion access. Even if not the most progressive, she is not openly and staunchly conservative like the alternative.
** And If You Want to Get More Involved…
------------------------------------------------------------
Please phone bank for Rachel and the other Will County Board on Monday and Tuesday. A handful of DSAers did this crucial Get Out The Vote work for the primary, which turned out to be really impactful and useful. If we want Socialists in power, we have to put in the work. Join us.
