October 28, 2022 Dear John, On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. This case will determine whether colleges can continue to use race as a factor in admissions decisions, and could impact college admissions for generations to come. Discrimination of any kind is wrong, which is why I joined Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to file an amicus brief in the case, urging the Court to end this decades-old injustice. The Democrats' "Inflation Reduction Act" - which has only made inflation worse - allocated $80 billion to hire 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents to target middle- and low-income families. We need to encourage the next generation to achieve their own American dream on their own merits. Earlier this year U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, (R-TX), and I submitted an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to take this opportunity to correct this decades-old injustice and end the use of race in admissions processes. I've been working to promote fairness in higher education for decades, because his type of behavior is only hurting future generations. We should be working together to stop this discrimination and hate in its tracks, and to encourage the next generation to achieve their own American dream. Included in the “Inflation Reduction Act” was $80 billion for the IRS. Of the $80 billion, only $3.2 billion is slated to go toward taxpayer services. That's only 4% of this money going to serve the taxpayers. Meanwhile, new audits and enforcement activities will get $45 billion. The Joint Committee on Taxation has estimated that 90% of the funds raised by the additional audits will be from taxpayers making less than $200,000 a year. We need more customer service and tax help at the IRS, not more enforcement and bloated spending from this Administration.
