Dear John,

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. This case will determine whether colleges can continue to use race as a factor in admissions decisions, and could impact college admissions for generations to come. Discrimination of any kind is wrong, which is why I joined Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to file an amicus brief in the case, urging the Court to end this decades-old injustice.

The Democrats' "Inflation Reduction Act" - which has only made inflation worse - allocated $80 billion to hire 87,000 new Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents to target middle- and low-income families. I've been working to pass my bill to repeal this funding and protect taxpayers.

Finally, I was glad to join members of our community for a beautiful Diwali celebration, and was honored to be named a "Retail Crime Fighter" by the National Retail Federation.

Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my FacebookInstagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time.
Discrimination Of Any Kind Is Morally Wrong
Next week, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments challenging the use of race in college admissions decisions. Discrimination of any kind is wrong. We need to encourage the next generation to achieve their own American dream on their own merits.

Earlier this year U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, (R-TX), and I submitted an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to take this opportunity to correct this decades-old injustice and end the use of race in admissions processes. I've been working to promote fairness in higher education for decades, because his type of behavior is only hurting future generations. We should be working together to stop this discrimination and hate in its tracks, and to encourage the next generation to achieve their own American dream.

I am hopeful that the Court will take this opportunity to fix a broken system, and I will be sure to update you.
The IRS Should Focus On Serving Americans
One thing we know for sure is that the Democrats’ so-called Inflation
Reduction Act has done absolutely nothing to reduce inflation. Included in the “Inflation Reduction Act” was $80 billion for the IRS. Of the $80 billion, only $3.2 billion is slated to go toward taxpayer services.

That's only 4% of this money going to serve the taxpayers. Meanwhile, new audits and enforcement activities will get $45 billion. The Joint Committee on Taxation has estimated that 90% of the funds raised by the additional audits will be from taxpayers making less than $200,000 a year. We need more customer service and tax help at the IRS, not more enforcement and bloated spending from this Administration.

I joined Stuart Varney to discuss my bill, the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act to defund the Biden Administration’s plan to hire 87,000 new IRS agents, and block efforts to drastically increase audits on middle class families, while preserving funding for customer service and IT modernization.
I am honored to have been able to join Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan (BAPS) of Los Angeles to celebrate Diwali and the New Year. It was a beautiful event, and I was glad to be a part of this festival of light and to wish all joy and prosperity!
3 Days Left to Apply for the Congressional App Challenge
My office is accepting submissions for the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) until November 1st. The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps. This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field.

Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.

The CAC is open to 6th - 12th grade students residing in or attending school in California’s 48th District. Teachers and/or students should verify their eligibility with our office by calling (714) 960-6483.

Southern Californians are experiencing some of the worst retail crime in the country. I am proud to be named a "Retail Crime Fighter" by the National Retail Federation for my work to stand up to crime and support small business!
Deadline Approaching: Military Academy Nominations
For high schoolers thinking about their futures, deciding what to do after graduation can be stressful. Whether studying the trades, attending a traditional four-year university, or joining the workforce, the decisions may seem overwhelming.

Attending one of our nation's Military Service Academies is both an incredible opportunity and a distinguished honor for those seeking a top-notch college education. Attendance comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

If a student in your life is thinking about applying to one of the military service academies, be sure to visit my website to learn all about the application process, receiving a Congressional nomination, and how my office can assist you!
