Hey John,
Its spooky season and you know what that means. Time to grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and hunker down on the couch for some horror movies!
But this year – a twist! Instead of watching the same old scary movies with token characters and harmful tropes, The Opportunity Agenda is here to help you change it up. Throughout the month of October, The Opportunity Agenda will be providing a running list of staff-picked must watch horror films as part of our #PowerOfPop series.

How are scary movies related to social justice you might ask? Well, the horror genre, filled with stories about people who live under constant threat from an elusive yet ever-present monster, is a particularly apt vehicle to tell the stories of people who live in the margins and experience oppression.
Check out last weeks staff pick “Bacurau” an eerie sci-fi horror film that exposes the connections between poverty, racism, and colonial violence. Hear from our Social Media Strategist, Sunee, on how the film subverts the genre and shifts the narrative against colonialism.
