CAMPAIGN UPDATE from Kristen
Good Morning, Friends! I am writing to give you an update on the campaign and my life in general. As many of you know, my day job is owning and running a small cake shop. Over the last seven years, my husband and I have poured countless hours into managing the day-to-day operations. This business has been my passion and I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity to do something I love full-time. As election day has drawn closer, the fall wedding season has ramped up, and due to the cost of ingredients, which have continued to rise, I have struggled to keep up with both the campaign and the business which is our household's only source of income. The reason I decided to run for office in the first place is because I always wanted to be represented by someone who knew the issues people face every day. While juggling everything on my plate, I am well aware what a privilege it is to have the flexibility to be in the position I am. My heart breaks for single parents trying to make ends meet, for those at risk of losing their homes if they are late on another payment, for those with no family to rely on and no safety net if they fall. I tell you all of this because of the incredible support you all have show me in my decision to run. I feel I owe it to those of you who have supported and invested in me with your time, energy, and hard-earned money to be transparent. It is my sincerest desire to help those of Southwest Missouri. The people here matter and they deserve a representative that is listening and working to provide hope and opportunity to the district. The burden we feel for those who have lost hope is heavy, and you all have so graciously helped carry it. And I want to thank you for that. Fortunately, our small, all-volunteer campaign team has been putting forth a tremendous effort we continue to move forward. We are now less than 5 weeks out from election day and we need help.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This campaign is truly a grass-roots effort. We have been funded exclusively through small dollar donors and powered by volunteers. We've compiled a few ways you can help, but truthfully, anything you do to spread the word is appreciated. THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8: Canvassing in Joplin Meet Austin, our Outreach Coordinator at 10:00 AM in the parking lot at 7th & Rangeline for a brief training and distribution of door literature. Contact: team@KristenForCongress Make sure all your friends are registered to vote by Oct. 12! Knock on doors or make phone calls to voters on your time Email Austin at
[email protected] for door literature or access to phone banking Follow us on Facebook and Twitter and share our posts Request a yard sign Help us organize a Meet & Greet event with your friends Write postcards to your friends and neighbors Available at the Greene County Democrat Office in Springfield and at 218 S. Main in Joplin This is the first time I've run for any office. Please be patient with us as we navigate the unique rules and challenges of our federal elections process. Many things I previously believed would be simple (like obtaining mailing lists or accessing data for canvassing) have seemingly endless hoops to jump through and significant financial barriers. Many times we have to track down answers to questions and it takes time. Thank you all for everything you've done. It would not be worth it if not for the wonderful people of Southwest Missouri. Sincerely, Kristen
